About Geelong

Geelong is Victoria’s second-largest city, with an urban population of nearly 200,000 people who enjoy one of the best coastal lifestyles.

In Australia, Geelong’s name originates from the Aboriginal work “Jillong”, meaning “a place of the sea bird over white cliffs”. The city takes full advantage of its prime position on the shores of the north-facing Corio Bay.

Waterfront Geelong is not to be missed!

The $300 million revamp has created an award-winning and exciting waterfront precinct enjoyed by locals and visitors. Among the attractions are restaurants and cafes, an historic carousel, a luxury hotel and the unique art deco Eastern Beach sea-bathing complex and parklands.

Geelong’s central city and suburbs offer excellent shopping facilities, restaurants, nightlife and recreation on a par with any capital city.

And there’s plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Queenscliffe, a short drive away on the Bellarine Peninsula, is a delightful historic seaside village. The famous Great Ocean Road boasts some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world. Seaside towns along the way include Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay. The world-renowned surfing mecca, Bells Beach, near Torquay, is a must-see. Further down the Great Ocean Road, the majestic Twelve Apostles tower over the ocean in the Port Campbell National Park.
