The point score system for the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing Championship is designed to reward driver ability, regular attendance at race meetings and the reliability of the race-car. It will also encourage and reward racing across the entire MG grid, not just within a competitor’s Class.

All races at official race meetings of the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing series will count towards the trophy for that meeting and towards the annual point score and annual trophies. Competition points scored at Round 6 of the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing Championship to be held at Phillip Island on October 21 & 22 will attract a 50% point score bonus.

For each race of the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing series, each entrant will be awarded 2 scores:

  • A Race Position score, based on their performance relative to the entire field, to be used in calculating all racing Trophies and Awards; and
  • A Class Adjustor score, based on their performance within their Class (Open, Fast Road and Historic) to be used, along with the Race Position score, in determining the overall MG Road Racing Champion (see below).

The Race Position score will be allocated from first to last in each race irrespective of Class or Category, with first place getting n points (where n = number of entrants for the race meeting), second getting n-1 points and so on.

The Class Adjustor score will be allocated from first to last within each Class, with first place in each Class getting n points (where n = number of entrants in that Class), second getting n-1 points and so on.

One point will also be awarded within both the Race Position and the Class Adjustor scores for starting but not finishing a race. In order to qualify, a driver must be recorded as "DNF" by the official timing system of the race. An entrant who does not start in a race at a meeting in which they have entered, will be awarded no points in that race.

Subject to meeting this year’s Eligibility Criteria (see below), all trophies other than the MG Road Racing Championship (i.e. Open, Fast Road and Historic Class trophies, and MGA, MGB on Radials, MGF, MG Midget, MG T-type and MG V8 Category trophies) will be determined by the aggregate of a competitor’s Race Position scores in the competitor’s best 6 race meetings of the 8 race meetings that comprise the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing Championship.

The overall MG Road Racing Championship, in which we seek to enable someone from any Class to be able to win, will be determined by the aggregate of a competitor’s Race Position scores PLUS his/her Class Adjustor scores in the competitor’s best 6 race meetings of the 8 race meetings that comprise the 2006 Wurth MG Road Racing Championship.

Where there is a tie, a count-back, based on the number of 1st places in Race Position, followed by the number of 2nd places and so on, will be used.

For each annual racing Trophy to be awarded in 2006, two Eligibility Criteria must be met:

  • At least two cars of the same Trophy Class or Category must have competed in at least 3 race meetings at any stage throughout the competition year; and
  • The Trophy winner must have competed in at least 3 race meetings in the contested Class or Category throughout the year.

Please note also that whilst any competitor driving an eligible MG may compete in this race series, only members of the Victorian MG Car Club are eligible for annual trophies and awards presented by the MG Car Club.
