MG Road Racing Championship - Class rules
Version: December 2004

The MG Road Racing Championship is open to all cars of the MG marque driven by members of the MG Car Club of Victoria. All competing cars must hold and conform to a current CAMS log book. MG Racers are encouraged to endeavour to have their cars comply with either the current Sports Car (2nd category) or Historic (5th category) rules as contained in the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. This will ensure that the owners can run their cars in races other than MG. Please feel free to contact a member of the MG Racing Committee to assist at any time.

Decisions regarding the categorisation of cars are made by the MG Racing Committee at its sole discretion.

The Committee reserves the right to nominate the appropriate Class (see below) in which each accumulates points for the MG Road Racing Championship.

For the purposes of the MG Road Racing Championship, competing cars will be classified as belonging to one of the following three Classes:

  • Historic Class: To comply, a vehicle must be an MG that holds a current CAMS Historic log book in either of the J, K, L or S categories.
  • Fast Road Class: provides for MGs that comply with the following rules, as ratified by the MG Racing Register in 2002:
    • Car must have an MG body/chassis and MG/Rover engine block.
    • The gearbox must be either MG or Rover. Internals free.
    • Method of induction is free, but excludes non-factory fitted turbo chargers.
    • The only modification allowed to the firewall is to MGB GT V8 specifications.
    • Slicks are prohibited.
    • Maximum wheel rim width is 8 inches (200 mm).
    • Differential is free.
    • Brakes are free.
    • Suspension is free.
  • Open Class: This Class caters for MGs that have undergone significant development work and which are neither Historic nor Fast Road (as defined above). To comply, cars must be based on an MG chassis/body and an MG or Rover engine.

Notwithstanding the above, in the case of vehicles that ran in MG Racing prior to 2000 and where documentation can be provided proving that the vehicle in question competed in MG Racing prior to 2000, the Committee has the discretion to allow the vehicle to continue to run in the Class in which it previously competed.

Racers considering embarking on major development projects are encouraged to contact the MG Racing Committee for advice.
